Griesbach Village is built around a monument to our fallen heroes. Patricia Park offers members of our community an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices that so many brave men and women made to ensure that we have an opportunity for a better future.
In the heart of Patricia Park was placed a time capsule meant to celebrate the first 150 years of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry regiment. On August 10, 2067 this capsule will be opened.
What will The City be like in 46 years?
According to the world’s top scientists and researchers, ongoing food shortages, natural disasters, and water scarcity related to planetary heating are likely to result in multiple wars over limited resources and unprecedented migration. To adapt to these converging crises we will need to become more resilient.
Griesbach Village has also become a model of what is possible when urban planners take seriously the need to move towards a sustainable future. With it’s walkability, housing density, community gardens, and commitment to natural habitats that promote urban biodiversity, this community is uniquely positioned to rise to the challenges that lie ahead.
This installation is meant to encourage further reflection on the ways we can improve our relationship with the natural world, while also preparing our families and communities for significant change. The found objects used to create this symbol of uprootedness represents the need to learn how to reuse and salvage materials that our culture often considers disposable.
In honor of those men and women who gave their lives for a better future it is important for us to continue to make significant changes in the ways we live, consume, and adapt. What can our families do to remain rooted?

It is well understood that the systems we currently depend upon have massive carbon footprints. But, thankfully, we also know that we can make decisions and behavior changes that would drastically decrease our negative impact on the environment. We can buy locally grown food, shop from local producers, travel less often, and bicycle or use public transit as much as possible. Griesbach is a community hub, and almost everything we need can be sourced here! LIVE LOCALLY.
Lifestyle changes are important, but they are not sufficient. Achieving true “sustainability” requires TRANSFORMATIVE action. It means working within our community to ensure ecological stewardship and appropriate infrastructure are core priorities. We can vote for people who support change. We can encourage and engage with low-carbon initiatives. And we can research where our money is going and choose to divest from institutions and projects that are not committed to a healthy biosphere (beware of “greenwashing’). THINK GLOBALLY.
